月窓

tsukimado — a small window on tonight's moon

Press the crescent in your toolbar, and tonight's moon
rises in a small indigo window — not a photo,
but drawn on the spot from the moon's actual age.

Coming soon to the Chrome Web Store

The moon in this window is drawn at its age right now.

The moon as it is
The terminator is computed and drawn fresh each time, so the shape shifts a little every night. A faint earthshine blue lingers on the shadowed side, and stars flicker through drifting haze.
Traditional phase names
Thirty names from new moon to old, lit in vertical script — including the waiting lineage of the Stand-and-Wait, Sit-and-Wait and Sleep-and-Wait Moons. In English, each name is a translation that keeps its meaning.
The moon's sign
Computed from the moon's ecliptic longitude — "Moon in Scorpio", in a single line. It moves one sign along roughly every two and a half days.
Next new & full moon
Dates and times from astronomical calculation (accurate to a minute or two). On the day itself, a quiet sparkle says "Tonight is the full moon." No permissions, no network — everything is computed on your side.
